Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complex at first, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha hi low offers an exciting collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players trying for the high, along with many shooting for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
