Omaha Hi Lo: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha hi/lo begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
While it seems complex at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting assortment of wagering choices and seeing that you have several players battling for the high hand, and many shooting for the low hand. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
