Omaha Hi Lo: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players can get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in nearly all poker games.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complex at first, following a few rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing range of wagering options and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, as well as several battling for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
